A Tigress refusing to allow disability to define her

Meet Raz

A white tiger rests its front legs and head on a large red ball, looking directly at the camera inside an enclosed outdoor area.
Three legs can’t stop this tiger from having fun!

  • Birthday:  April 7, 2004

  • Species:  White Bengal Tiger – Panthera Tigris

  • Status:  Endangered

She’s not the largest cat on campus, but Raz is renown for her sheer strength of spirit. Blessed with one of the most charming chuffs of all the tigers, Raz has made it a point to live life to the fullest. A cubhood injury left Raz with only one front leg after it was terribly damaged in a conflict with another tiger. While this might have been a crippling injury, she fought back to health and didn’t let it slow her down in the least.  As she’s aged, Raz has continued to demonstrate that amazing fighting spirit that inspires so many–as well as her propensity to find and wallow in any wet puddles she can find. Unlike some white tigers, this one loves the mud! So much so, that she has earned the nickname “mud puppy.” For Raz, disability has not hampered her ability to enjoy life, or share that joy with others.

A white tiger lies in shallow water next to a large red ball, looking toward the camera. Sunlight casts shadows across its body.
